I always wanted children, I remember doing all the usual little girl stuff , playing mummy with dolls and the prams, It never occurred to me that I might never have children-I don't think it's something anyone really thinks until they start trying...and trying and nothing happens! I didn't want to make a big deal out of it, so a year went by and me and Mr Lucky tried to pretend nothing was wrong and maybe 'timing wasn't quite right' , It was only when I felt really ill and got rushed to hospital I discovered something was a bit more serious-The doctors thought I had appendicitis but it turns out I had really bad Endometriosis that had attached itself to my appendix, so they took it away, and burned off as much of the endometriosis as they could, they also found cysts on my ovaries when they gave me an ultrasound, one of which turned out to be a Dermoid cyst (yes one of those yucky yucky things that some people believe are twins living inside you-I'm pretty sure they're not!!) we nick-named it Binnie and I did lots of research on it while waiting for another op a few months later to have it removed- mine was 'only' the size of a tennis ball, but I discovered that they can grow to be as big as watermelons! They can also contain hair and teeth, Binnie however was a toothless baldy, made up of mostly dead skin, or so I'm told!!
Once Binnie was removed Mr Lucky and I thought that our battle was over and that we'd DEFINITELY be having a baby soon, but soon another heartbreaking six months had passed and we decided to see the fertility specialist about treatment...and so it began, another six months, tons of blood tests later, sperm samples taken (Mr Lucky had a few funny tales of his own about those-might share later!) a Lap & Dye Procedure (injecting dye into my fallopian tubes to check if they were blocked or not) another op to remove some more endometriosis and a decision was made that we'd try Intra-Uterine Insemination (IuI) ..More tests, some hormone injections (one every other day!) internal ultrasounds and eventually the big day...Mr Lucky had to take his sample in to the hospital a couple of hours before I had the procedure, where they washed it and got it ready, then I had to go in and have it injected into me, (Reminded me of the scene in Brookside with Jacqui Dixon and Max Farnham and the Turkey baster, anyone??!!)anyway I was told to insert some pessaries to help thicken my womb lining for two weeks then take the test, but being the impatient person that I am I ended up testing a week early, I couldn't believe it when I Saw the faintest blue lines on the test, Mr Lucky told me not to get too excited as maybe it was just the extra hormones I'd had to inject. giving me a false positive, however each day I did another test and the line became a little clearer each time, and on the 'official' testing day, Mr Lucky went out and bought six pregnancy tests (he came home and told me two teenage girls were behind him in the till queue and he heard them giggling 'he should have used a condom!-he was very embarrassed!) Anyway sure enough the tests (yes, all six of them!) came back positive and little miracle 1 was finally on his way!!
Looking forward to the next installment.Think I'll be in tears reading this-happy tears though.
